About Handrail Supports

A handrail support is a stainless-steel bracket that connects a handrail to the structure beneath it — a railing post, a glass panel or a wall — holding the rail at the correct height and angle.

The support transfers the lateral grip load from the handrail into the post, glass or wall, and its geometry determines whether the rail sits flat, at 90° or at an adjustable angle to follow stair pitches and direction changes.

Strofix supplies 48 handrail support products across three subcategories — for post, for glass and for wall — in AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel with satin or polished finishes.

The range includes fixed 90° fittings, adjustable-angle fittings, handrail plates, corner fittings, horizontal fittings and welding fittings, with stem diameters of Ø12 and Ø14 mm and compatibility with both Ø42.4 mm round pipe and 40×40 mm flat post profiles.

The correct support depends on mounting surface, handrail profile, connection method (screwable or welding) and whether a fixed or adjustable angle is needed.

How to choose a handrail support

1. Mounting surface: post, glass or wall

This determines the subcategory. Post supports mount on top of a railing post and are the most common type — Strofix offers the widest range here.

Glass supports clamp or fix to the upper edge of a glass panel for glass-top handrail systems.

Wall supports fix to a flat wall surface for wall-mounted handrails.

Choose based on where the handrail is being attached.

2. Post profile: Ø42.4 mm round or 40×40 mm flat

Post-mount supports are available in variants profiled for Ø42.4 mm round pipe posts and for 40×40 mm flat-sided square posts.

The base of the support must match the post it sits on — a round-pipe support will not sit flush on a flat post and vice versa.

3. Angle: fixed 90°, adjustable or horizontal

Fixed 90° fittings hold the handrail perpendicular to the post and are used on level runs.

Adjustable fittings allow the angle to be set on site, accommodating stair pitches and non-standard gradients.

Horizontal fittings position the handrail parallel to the post axis.

Corner 90° fittings are used where the railing turns a right-angle corner.

Identify all fitting positions along the run before ordering.

4. Connection method: screwable or welding

Screwable fittings thread onto the post or stem with a set screw, allowing assembly and disassembly without welding equipment.

Welding fittings are permanently fused to the post for a seamless joint.

Most Strofix handrail supports are screwable; welding variants are available for specific applications where a weld joint is preferred.

5. Finish: satin or polished

Satin is the standard finish across the range — 41 of 48 products.

Polished variants are available for selected fittings where a brighter, reflective appearance is required.

AISI 316 is available on four variants for coastal and high-humidity installations.
