About end caps for tube

An end cap closes the open end of a Ø42.4 mm railing tube or handrail – both for appearance and to keep water out of the tube.

An open handrail end is also a safety matter: the tube edge is sharp and sits exactly at hand height.

Strofix offers four shapes. The flat cap closes the end without any projection, the convex cap forms a low dome, the ellipsoid cap a longer rounded end, and the 90° elbow cap turns the handrail towards a wall or floor.

The range also includes weld-in caps in 2 and 4 mm with a Ø8 or Ø12 mm hole, plus flat and convex versions with an M8 thread.

The choice depends on the shape wanted, whether the end will be welded, and whether something has to pass through or bolt onto the end.

How to choose an end cap for tube

1. Shape: flat, convex, ellipsoid or 90°

The flat cap is the lowest and least noticeable. Choose it where the handrail end runs into a wall or post.

Convex and ellipsoid caps form a rounded end that is more comfortable to touch and visually softer – the usual solution for a handrail that ends in free air.

The 90° elbow cap turns the handrail end through 90° so it can return to a wall or floor. The range has it with both a sharp and a rounded transition.

2. Weld-in or surface-fitted

Weld-in 2 and 4 mm caps are welded into the tube end and become invisible once the seam is dressed.

Flat, convex and ellipsoid caps fit onto a finished end – faster on site and with no welding.

3. Hole or M8 thread

A weld-in cap with a Ø8 or Ø12 mm hole lets a rod or bolt pass through the handrail end.

Flat and convex caps with an M8 thread let you bolt a support or connector to the end without extra drilling.

4. Steel grade: AISI 304 or AISI 316

Most of the range is AISI 304, which suits interiors and normal outdoor exposure.

AISI 316 resists chlorides better and is the right choice on the coast and around pools. In this range it is available for the convex cap.

5. Finish: satin, polished or raw

Satin is matt and matches standard railing hardware; polished is a mirror finish.

Weld-in caps are supplied raw, because they are finished after welding together with the seam.
