A slot handrail for glass is a profile with a groove on its underside that seats directly on the top edge of a glass panel, acting both as a handrail and as an edge protector.

The round Ø42.4 mm handrail is the classic form – the same tube used for railing posts, so it reads as part of the same system.

The glass is held by a gasket inside the slot, which is why one handrail covers a wide range of glass thicknesses from 8 to 21.52 mm.

The Strofix range has a satin version in AISI 304/316 and a polished AISI 316 version, both in lengths from 2500 to 5000 mm.

The choice depends on glass thickness, the length required, the finish and the environment.

How to choose a round slot handrail

1. Glass thickness (8–21.52 mm)

There is one slot, but several gaskets – the gasket is what adapts the slot to your specific glass.

Order the gasket together with the handrail and to your own glass thickness. Without the right gasket the handrail will rattle on the glass.

2. Length (2500–5000 mm)

A longer handrail means fewer joints in the visible line, which looks better and is stiffer.

For runs longer than 5000 mm, use a handrail connector – it joins two handrails in line without a step.

3. Steel grade: AISI 304 or AISI 316

AISI 304 suits interiors and normal outdoor exposure.

AISI 316 resists chlorides better and is the right choice on the coast, around pools, and on balconies where de-icing salt is used. The polished version in this range is AISI 316.

4. Finish: satin or polished

Satin is matt, shows fingerprints less, and is the practical choice for a handrail that is touched every day.

Polished is a mirror finish and more expressive, but needs more frequent cleaning.

5. What else the assembly needs

A complete run needs, besides the handrail, a gasket matched to the glass thickness, end caps for both ends and – where the line turns – a handrail elbow.

For a wall connection there is a separate axial handrail fastening.
