About D40 Glass Adaptors

A D40 glass adaptor is a Ø40 mm stainless-steel point fixing that mounts a glass panel to a wall, floor or post through a single drilled hole in the glass.

The 40 mm cover diameter offers a mid-range footprint – larger than D30 but more compact than D50 – making it a versatile choice for residential and light-commercial balustrades, partitions and decorative glazing.

Strofix supplies D40 glass adaptors in six variants: flat-cover adaptors with 6 and 10 mm spacers, spherical (domed) cover adaptors in standard and inner-thread configurations, a face-screw variant and a Ø42.4 mm tube-mount variant – all in AISI 304 stainless steel with a satin finish, with AISI 316 available on the face-screw variant.

Spacer thicknesses range from 6 to 52 mm, and glass compatibility spans 4–21.52 mm depending on the variant.

The correct D40 adaptor depends on head profile, spacer thickness, mounting surface and fixing type.

How to choose a D40 glass adaptor

1. Head profile: flat or spherical

Flat-cover D40 adaptors produce a disc-like, low-profile appearance and are available in two spacer thicknesses (6 and 10 mm).

Spherical (domed) covers add a three-dimensional accent and are available in a standard version and an inner-thread version with selectable spacer heights from 10 to 52 mm.

Choose based on the desired visual style – both profiles are structurally equivalent.

2. Spacer thickness (6–52 mm)

The spacer sets the distance between the glass and the mounting surface.

The 6 mm variant is suited to near-flush installations.

The 10 mm variant fits standard wall build-ups.

The spherical inner-thread variant offers selectable spacer heights of 10, 22, 32, 42 and 52 mm, covering a wide range of wall construction depths and insulation thicknesses.

Spacer height is fixed per variant (except on the inner-thread model) and cannot be changed after installation.

3. Mounting surface: flat or Ø42.4 mm tube

Five variants have a flat base for wall, floor or flat-sided post mounting.

One variant has a concave base profiled for Ø42.4 mm round pipe.

Match the base profile to the structure the glass will be mounted on.

4. Fixing type: standard, face screw or inner thread

Standard D40 adaptors use a threaded stud through the glass.

The face-screw variant fixes from the visible side, simplifying installation where back-access is limited.

The spherical inner-thread variant accepts a bolt from the glass side, providing selectable spacer heights and removability.

Choose based on site access and assembly requirements.

5. Glass thickness (4–21.52 mm)

Flat-cover variants accept glass from 4 to 21.52 mm, covering single-pane toughened and multi-layer laminated build-ups.

Spherical variants accept 8–17.52 mm glass.

Confirm the panel thickness before selecting to ensure compatibility with the adaptor's hole and gasket dimensions.
