About wall-mounted handrail supports

A wall-mounted handrail support fixes a handrail to a wall – along a corridor, staircase or ramp – without railing posts. Its base is screwed to the wall, and the handrail sits on a support plate shaped to the handrail profile.

Strofix offers three ways to do this: complete wall supports, with the whole bracket in one part; an assembly built from a rod and a support plate; and fastenings that anchor the end of a handrail to a wall or floor. All are for 40 × 40 mm square-profile or Ø42.4 mm round handrails, in AISI 304 with a satin finish; selected models are also available in AISI 316 or polished.

How to choose a wall-mounted handrail support

1. Handrail profile: 40 × 40 mm or Ø42.4 mm

The support plate must match the handrail: a flat plate for a 40 × 40 mm square-profile handrail, a curved plate for Ø42.4 mm round tube. With the wrong plate the handrail bears on two edges, and the joint works loose over time.

2. Complete support or assembly

A complete wall support is one part and the quickest to install. Round bases ø50, ø60 or ø70 mm and rectangular 40 × 60 or 40 × 70 mm bases are available; the size in the name is the base, not the distance from the wall.

An assembly from a rod and a support plate lets you choose the plate separately – for example a corner plate where the handrail turns.

3. Level or sloped handrail

Fixed supports hold the handrail at a set angle and suit level runs. On stairs, choose an adjustable support or an adjustable support plate so that the handrail can follow the pitch.

4. Handrail ends

The wall-and-bottom fastenings anchor the end of a Ø42.4 mm handrail to a wall or to the floor, at the start or end of a run: base ø50/56 mm, or ø85 mm with three screws.

5. Finish and steel grade

The standard is AISI 304 with a satin finish. Selected models are available polished or in AISI 316; choose AISI 316 near the sea, around outdoor pools or where de-icing salt is used.

6. Fixing into the wall

The anchor in the wall matters as much as the bracket. Use chemical or mechanical anchors in concrete; in plasterboard, fix the bracket to an embedded timber or steel noggin, never to the board alone.
