About elbows for Ø42.4 mm tube

An elbow changes the direction of the tube. Ø42.4 mm is the base size of the Strofix system, which is why the widest choice sits here – by angle, by shape and by mounting method.

The shape difference is not only aesthetic. A flush elbow makes a sharp transition, a rounded one a soft transition; if the elbow is at hand height on a handrail, a sharp transition is felt every time a hand slides over it.

The range covers weld-on elbows at 90°, flush, round and rounded elbows at 90° and 135°, and adjustable elbows at 70°, 90° and 360°.

Finishes are satin, polished and raw; raw applies to the weld-on versions.

The choice depends on the angle, on whether the elbow is at hand height, and on whether it will be welded.

How to choose an elbow for tube

1. Angle: 90°, 135° or adjustable

90° suits rectangular terraces and balconies; 135° suits chamfered corners and polygonal plans.

Adjustable elbows cover 70°, 90° and 360°. The 360° version rotates freely and is the only one that suits any angle, including one that turns out different on site from the drawing.

2. Shape: flush, round or rounded

The flush elbow is the lowest and least noticeable.

Round and rounded elbows make a flowing transition. For a handrail people actually hold, choose the rounded one.

3. Weld-on or push-fit

The weld-on elbow is welded between two tube ends and becomes almost invisible once the seam is dressed. It is also supplied raw, since the finish has to be restored anyway.

Push-fit elbows connect without welding – faster on site and with no finish to restore.

4. Steel grade and finish

The range is mainly AISI 304; some elbows are also available in AISI 316 for coastal sites and pool surrounds.

Polished versions suit assemblies where the tube and posts are polished too. Do not mix a polished elbow with satin tube – the change at the joint is conspicuous.
