About End Caps

An end cap closes the open end of a railing tube, post or crossbar rod – it keeps water and dirt out and gives the end a clean, finished look. An open tube end is sharp-edged and lets water collect inside the profile.

Strofix supplies 31 end caps in three families. For Ø42.4 mm tube: flat, convex and ellipsoid caps (some with an M8 thread), 90° elbow end caps with a sharp or rounded transition, and weld-in caps, some with a Ø8 or Ø12 mm hole. For 40 × 40 mm profile: flat caps (one with an M8 thread) and weld-on caps with a Ø8, Ø12 or Ø16 mm hole. For Ø10 and Ø12 mm crossbar rods: caps 15–30 mm high in flat, ball and droplet shapes.

Most caps are AISI 304 satin; polished versions exist for the tube caps and the Ø12 mm rod caps, weld-in caps are supplied raw, and AISI 316 is available for selected caps.

How to choose an end cap

1. Profile: Ø42.4 mm tube, 40 × 40 mm profile or rod

The cap must match the profile it closes – a round cap will not fit a square tube and vice versa. Rod caps fit Ø10 or Ø12 mm crossbar rods.

2. Fitted or welded

Fitted caps are driven or glued into a finished end – quick on site, with no welding. Weld-on caps are welded to the tube or profile end and blend in once the seam is dressed; they are supplied raw because they are finished together with the weld.

3. Shape

Flat caps are the most discreet. Convex and ellipsoid caps give a rounded end that is softer to the touch – the usual choice for a handrail that ends in free air. The 90° elbow end cap turns the handrail end towards a wall or floor.

4. Hole or thread

A weld-in cap with a hole lets a rod or bolt pass through the end; a cap with an M8 thread lets you bolt a support or connector to it without extra drilling.

5. Finish and steel grade

Match the cap finish to the adjacent tube – satin or polished. AISI 304 suits interiors and normal outdoor exposure; AISI 316, available for selected caps, is the choice near the sea, around outdoor pools or where de-icing salt is used.
