About handrail end fastenings

An end fastening fixes the handrail end to a wall or floor axially – the handrail enters the fitting end-on, rather than being held from the side.

That means the handrail end needs no separate end cap: the fastening closes it.

1. When to use it

Where the balustrade line ends at a wall or runs into the floor, and the handrail must not be left free. A free handrail end at hand height is both uncomfortable and a snag hazard.

2. Finish

The range has a satin and a polished version. Choose the same as the handrail – the end fitting sits at eye level, and a mismatched finish is conspicuous there.

3. Fixing into the wall

The handrail end carries all the load applied at the end of the run, so the anchor is critical. Use chemical or mechanical anchors in concrete; in plasterboard, fix only to an embedded noggin.
