A handrail support for posts carries the handrail on top of the railing posts. It has two contact faces: the bottom fits the post, the top carries the handrail.

Strofix supplies them in two ways: as complete supports – post insert, stem and support plate in one part – and as separate support rods and support plates that are combined on site. Post end caps close the top of posts that carry no handrail support.

All versions are made for Ø42.4 mm round tube posts or 40×40 mm square tube posts, and for a Ø42.4 mm round or 40×40 mm square handrail.

How to choose a handrail support for posts

1. Post and handrail profile

Check both. The insert or base must match the post – Ø42.4 mm or 40×40 mm. The support plate must match the handrail – curved for a Ø42.4 mm round handrail, flat for a 40×40 mm square handrail.

2. Complete support or rod and plate

A complete support is one part and the quickest to install. Separate rods and plates let you combine the stem and the plate you need.

3. Handrail angle

Fixed supports hold the handrail at 90° to the post, for level runs. Adjustable supports have a hinged plate whose angle is set on site, for stairs and sloped runs.

Corner 90° supports carry two handrail sections that meet on a corner post. The horizontal support has no stem: the handrail runs directly on top of the post.

4. Bonded or welded

The inserts of complete supports are bonded (glued) into the post top – no welding equipment is needed. Weld-on versions are joined by welding; some are supplied with a raw surface, which is finished after welding.

5. Steel grade and finish

Most supports are AISI 304. Selected supports are also available in AISI 316 – choose it near the sea, around outdoor pools or where de-icing salt is used.

Satin is the standard finish. Polished versions suit posts and handrails that are polished too.
