About adjustable pipe elbows

An adjustable elbow lets the angle between two Ø42.4 mm tube sections be set during installation.

In practice it solves one specific problem: the real pitch of a stair flight almost never matches the drawing, and a fixed elbow would force the tube together under stress.

The Strofix range has three ranges – 70°, 90° and 360° – in satin and polished.

The 360° version rotates freely through a full circle; 70° and 90° cover a defined range around a nominal angle.

The choice depends on how wide an angle range you need, and on the finish.

How to choose an adjustable pipe elbow

1. Range: 70°, 90° or 360°

The 90° version suits standard turns where the angle is close to a right angle but not exactly 90°.

The 70° version is for sharper turns. The 360° version rotates freely and is the only one that suits any angle – including one that turns out completely different on site.

2. For stairs, count every joint

On a stair flight an adjustable elbow is needed not only at the start and end, but at every point where the pitch changes – including at a half-landing.

If even one joint is fixed, the whole line will either bend there or carry stress.

3. Adjustable versus fixed

An adjustable joint costs more and is always slightly less rigid, because it contains a moving part.

Where the angle is known and it is 90° or 135°, the fixed elbow is the better choice – cheaper, stiffer and visually cleaner.

4. Steel grade and finish

The range is AISI 304, and the 90° version is also available in AISI 316 for coastal sites and pool surrounds.

Polished versions suit polished systems. An adjustable joint is where two surfaces meet – a mismatched finish is especially noticeable there.
