About Crossbar Holders

A crossbar holder is a small stainless-steel fitting that carries a horizontal Ø12 mm rod on a railing post or a flat surface. At intermediate posts the rod runs through the holder; at end posts it ends in a left or right holder with a blind hole.

Strofix supplies 16 crossbar holders in two series: eight for a flat surface (the side of a 40 × 40 mm post, a wall or a plate) and eight with a concave base for Ø42.4 mm round posts. Each series has through, left and right end, connecting, front and adjustable front holders; the flat series adds a holder for 1.5–4 mm glass, the tube series a vertical holder. All take a Ø12 mm rod; the holder body is Ø22 mm (the glass holder Ø25 mm), and most are fixed with an M6 screw.

The correct holder depends on the post profile, the position in the railing run and whether the crossbar follows a stair.

How to choose a crossbar holder

1. Post profile: flat surface or Ø42.4 mm tube

Holders for a flat surface have a flat base for square posts, walls and plates. Holders for tube have a concave base that sits flush on a Ø42.4 mm post. The base must match the surface it is fixed to.

2. Position in the run

Through holders are used at intermediate posts where the rod continues on both sides. Left and right end holders close the rod at the end of a run – left or right is the side of the run the end post is on, seen from the front. Connecting holders join two rods at one post. Front holders carry the rod on the face of the post rather than on its side.

3. Straight run or stairs

Fixed holders carry the rod horizontally. The adjustable front holder lets the angle change, so the crossbar can follow a stair flight; on stairs it is normally needed at every post in the run.

4. Rod diameter: Ø12 mm

Every holder takes a Ø12 mm rod – the standard crossbar size in the Strofix range. Use rods, end caps and elbows of the same diameter.

5. Finish and steel grade

Satin is the standard finish; the through holders are also available polished. The range is AISI 304; the through holder for Ø42.4 mm tube is also available in AISI 316 for sites near the sea, around outdoor pools or where de-icing salt is used.
