About handrail supports mounted on posts

A post-mounted handrail support is a complete assembly that replaces a separate rod and support plate – one part connecting the post top to the handrail.

The practical difference is assembly speed and rigidity: fewer joints means fewer places that can work loose over time.

The Strofix range covers weld-on, horizontal and adjustable supports, for both Ø42.4 mm tube and 40x40 mm profile.

Finishes are satin, polished and raw; raw applies to the weld-on versions, whose finish has to be restored after the seam anyway.

The choice depends on post and handrail profile, whether the angle has to be adjusted, and whether the support will be welded.

How to choose a post-mounted handrail support

1. Post and handrail profile

The support has two contact faces – one against the post, one against the handrail – and both are profiled.

The range covers Ø42.4 mm tube, 40x40 mm profile and a Ø42.4 / Ø42.4 combination. Check both dimensions, not just one.

2. Weld-on or bolted

The weld-on support is welded to the post. It is the stiffest joint and the cleanest visually, but needs welding on site or in the workshop.

Bolted versions screw to the post end – faster, and with no welding equipment.

3. Fixed or adjustable

The fixed support holds the handrail at 90°. It suits a horizontal handrail on vertical posts.

The adjustable support lets the angle change and is essential on stair balustrades where the handrail runs at a pitch.

4. Steel grade and finish

Most of the range is AISI 304; some supports are also available in AISI 316 for coastal sites and pool surrounds.

Polished versions are for assemblies where the post and handrail are polished too. Raw is for welding.
