About posts for a Ø42.4 mm handrail

This section splits the square point-fixing posts by handrail shape: these are the ones whose top is prepared for a round Ø42.4 mm handrail.

The post itself is square and identical to the adjacent section – only the handrail connection differs.

A square post with a round handrail is a common combination: the structure stays straight and minimal, while the part people touch is round and easier on the hand.

In the range these are for flat floors, in AISI 304 and AISI 316, satin finish.

If the handrail is not yet chosen, decide it first – it governs both this choice and every handrail element.

How to choose

1. Why a round handrail on a square post

Ø42.4 mm tube is easier to grip with the whole hand than a 40x40 mm profile with sharp arrises.

On stairs and in public buildings, where the handrail is real support, it is the practical choice. On a straight terrace, where the handrail is more a capping than a grab rail, both shapes are equivalent.

2. Point fixings mean holes in the glass

The holes must be ordered at the glass factory; toughened glass cannot be drilled afterwards.

Post spacing and hole positions have to be known before the glass is ordered, not after.

3. Steel grade

AISI 304 suits interiors and normal outdoor exposure; AISI 316 suits the coast, pools and places with winter salt.

Grade matters more with a point fixing than with a clamp, because the fixing passes through the glass and its condition cannot be inspected.

4. What to order separately

Glass, handrail sections, handrail elements and base fixings are not included.

Choose handrail elements from the round Ø42.4 mm series – square elements do not fit this handrail.
