About round posts with crossbars

In crossbar balustrades the infill is made of horizontal Ø12 mm rods rather than glass. A complete post comes with the holders already fitted, so only the rods have to be ordered separately.

These are the round Ø42.4 mm posts. Square 40x40 mm posts have their own series.

The range covers left and right end posts, through posts and stair versions, all with a round Ø42.4 mm handrail.

End and through posts differ in whether the rod stops at the post or passes through – so the ends and the middle of a run need different posts.

The choice depends on where the post sits in the run, whether the balustrade climbs a stair, and the steel grade.

How to choose a round post with crossbars

1. End or through post

On an end post the rods stop, so the holders are closed. They come in left and right versions, depending on which side the run continues.

On a through post the rods pass through; these sit mid-run. Before ordering, walk the line and count the two types separately.

2. Flat floor or stairs

On a stair post the holders are set for the pitch so the rods run parallel to the flight.

On a flat-floor post they are horizontal. A transition from stair to landing needs both types.

3. What to order separately

Ø12 mm rods, handrail sections and base fixings are not included.

The rods will also need end caps and – where the line turns – rod elbows. Both are in the crossbar holder and elbow sections.

4. Steel grade

AISI 304 suits interiors and normal outdoor exposure; AISI 316 suits the coast, pools and places with winter salt.

A crossbar system has many small, tightly mating parts, and that is where corrosion starts first – outdoors, AISI 316 is worth considering for the whole system, not only the posts.
