About weld-on base plates for tube

A base plate for tube is a round plate welded to the bottom of a Ø42.4 mm railing post, through which the post is anchored to the substrate.

Unlike plates for square profiles, here not only the diameter matters but also plate thickness and the number of bolt holes – together they set how much overturning moment the base can take.

The Strofix range covers Ø80 mm and Ø100 mm plates in 4 mm, and a Ø100 mm plate in 6 mm.

Bolt holes number two, three, or two to four depending on the variant. All plates are supplied raw, as they are meant to be welded and finished together with the seam.

The choice depends on load, substrate, the space around the post and the steel grade.

How to choose a weld-on base plate for tube

1. Diameter: Ø80 or Ø100 mm

The Ø100 mm plate spreads load wider and lets anchors sit further from the post axis, which matters when the balustrade is pushed outwards.

The Ø80 mm plate suits places where there is little room around the post – the edge of a narrow terrace, or next to a kerb.

2. Plate thickness: 4 or 6 mm

4 mm is the standard thickness for interiors and lighter outdoor balustrades.

The 6 mm plate is stiffer and flexes less under overturning moment. Choose it for taller posts, public projects and places where many people may lean on the balustrade.

3. Bolt holes: 2, 3 or 4

Two holes suit cases where the load acts mainly in one plane and space is tight.

Three or four holes distribute restraint evenly in all directions and are the right choice for a free-standing post at a terrace edge.

4. Steel grade and finish

Most of the range is AISI 304; the Ø80 mm three-bolt version is also available in AISI 316 for coastal sites and pool surrounds.

All plates are raw. After welding, clean the seam and the heat-affected zone, and only then apply a finish.
