About square posts with glass point fixings

A point fixing holds the glass panel through a drilled hole rather than gripping its edge. The result is a cleaner, more minimal line – the glass reads as floating, with no visible clamp along the edge.

The price for that is planning precision: the holes must be ordered at the glass factory, and nothing can be drilled into toughened glass afterwards.

That means post spacing and hole positions have to be known before the glass is ordered, not after.

In the Strofix range these posts are for flat floors, with a square 40x40 mm or round Ø42.4 mm handrail, in AISI 304 and AISI 316.

The choice depends on handrail shape and steel grade.

How to choose a post with point fixings

1. First – has the glass already been ordered

If the glass is already made without holes, point fixings are no longer an option. Choose posts with glass clamps that grip the edge instead.

If the glass is not yet ordered, decide now – this is one of the few balustrade choices that cannot be changed later.

2. Handrail shape: square 40x40 or round Ø42.4

The post top is prepared for a specific handrail. A square handrail continues the line of the post; a round one is easier on the hand.

The range has both in equal number, so the choice is purely appearance and ergonomics.

3. Flat floors only

These posts are for flat floors. A stair version with point fixings is not available in this series.

If the project has both a flat terrace and stairs, consider the glass clamp series, where stair versions exist – otherwise the two runs will not match.

4. Steel grade: AISI 304 or AISI 316

AISI 304 suits interiors and normal outdoor exposure; AISI 316 suits the coast, pools and places with winter salt.

Grade matters more here than with a clamp: the fixing passes through the glass, and corrosion on it is not visible until it is too late.
