About Pipes & Bars

Pipes and bars are the stainless-steel raw-stock components used to build handrails, railing infills and structural frames in balustrade systems.

Round pipes serve as handrails and post tubes, square tubes form flat-sided posts and handrails, and solid bars function as horizontal rod infills between railing posts.

Strofix supplies three products in this category: a round pipe in AISI 304 stainless steel with a satin finish (3000 mm length), a square tube in AISI 304 with a satin finish (6000 mm length), and solid bars in Ø10 and Ø12 mm diameters in AISI 304 with a raw surface (6000 mm length), with AISI 316 available on the bars.

These are cut-to-length stock items that the installer trims to the required dimensions on site.

The correct product depends on the railing component being built, the required profile shape and the steel grade.

How to choose a pipe or bar

1. Profile type: round pipe, square tube or solid bar

Round pipes are used as handrails (paired with handrail supports, elbows and connectors) and as post tubes for round-profile railing systems.

Square tubes are used as handrails and posts for flat-profile railing systems.

Solid bars are used exclusively as horizontal rod infills between railing posts in rod railing systems.

Identify the railing component being built, then select the matching profile.

2. Diameter and dimensions

The round pipe fits standard Ø42.4 mm railing fittings — elbows, connectors, end caps and handrail supports — across the Strofix range.

The square tube matches 40×40 mm flat-profile components.

Solid bars are available in Ø10 and Ø12 mm; choose the diameter that fits the rod-holder holes in the railing post system being used.

3. Length (3000 or 6000 mm)

The round pipe is supplied in 3000 mm lengths.

The square tube and solid bars are supplied in 6000 mm lengths.

Calculate the total linear metres needed for the project and order enough stock to cover all runs, accounting for cutting waste.

Pipes and bars are trimmed to final length on site by the installer.

4. Steel grade: AISI 304 or AISI 316

All three products are available in AISI 304.

Solid bars are also available in AISI 316 for exterior, coastal or high-humidity environments where higher corrosion resistance is needed on exposed infill elements.

5. Surface finish: satin or raw

The round pipe and square tube are supplied with a satin finish — ready to install with no additional surface treatment.

Solid bars have a raw (unpolished) surface, which is typical for rod infills that are partially concealed within the post and where a brushed or mill finish is acceptable.
