The Strofix D40 glass adaptor for Ø42.4 mm tube is a stainless-steel point fixing used to mount 8–17.52 mm glass panels onto Ø42.4 mm tubular crossbars and posts in balustrades, railings, and partition systems. Supplied in AISI 304 with a fixed 10 mm spacer, satin finish, a Ø40 mm flat cover, and an M10 × 40 mm screw.
The base of the adaptor is machined with a curved seat that matches the Ø42.4 mm tube profile, providing full contact and a clean visual transition between the cover and the tube. Each adaptor secures the glass through a single Ø19.5 mm pre-drilled hole, with an 18.5 mm inner bushing diameter, and is clamped by an M10 × 40 mm stainless-steel screw, with the 10 mm un-threaded spacer setting the standoff between the tube and the glass. The Ø40 mm flat cover gives the fixing a moderate visual presence — between the smaller D30 and larger D60 tube variants — suited to mid-format railings and balustrade systems. AISI 304 is the standard chromium-nickel stainless steel and provides reliable corrosion resistance for indoor installations and standard protected outdoor environments away from coastal conditions.
The satin finish reduces visible fingerprints and micro-scratches compared to polished stainless steel and visually matches Strofix Ø42.4 mm tube and handrail components in a satin finish.
This adaptor is machined specifically for Ø42.4 mm tube (mounting surface type: Tube ø 42,4 mm). The curved seat will not fit other tube diameters correctly — for different tube sizes, choose a different Strofix adaptor variant.
The D40 tube adaptor is suitable for glass panels from 8 mm to 17.52 mm thick, covering standard toughened glass and most common laminated glass buildups used in balustrades and railings.
A minimum Ø19.5 mm hole is required. The adaptor uses an 18.5 mm inner bushing diameter for the M10 screw. The hole must be pre-drilled by the glass supplier before tempering — toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after heat treatment.
All three are designed for Ø42.4 mm tube. The D30 has a Ø30 mm cover with M8 fixing on 6–12.76 mm glass through a Ø14 mm hole. The D40 has a Ø40 mm cover with M10 × 40 mm fixing on 8–17.52 mm glass through a Ø19.5 mm hole. The D60 has a Ø60 mm cover with a longer M10 × 100 mm screw on the same 8–17.52 mm glass range. Choose the D40 for mid-format railings; the D30 for lighter glass or smaller covers; the D60 for heavier-duty installations or a more substantial visual presence.
No. This SKU ships with a fixed 10 mm un-threaded spacer, which sets the standoff distance between the tube and the glass. The spacer cannot be adjusted after installation.
Yes, with basic tools: a drill bit suited to the tube material, a torque wrench, and pre-drilled glass. The tube must be drilled to accept the M10 × 40 mm screw, and the curved base should be seated flush against the Ø42.4 mm tube before tightening. Glass panels should be handled with two people to avoid cracking.
A glass adaptor is a stainless-steel point fixing that attaches a glass panel to a supporting structure through a drilled hole in the glass. It transfers load from the panel to the substrate while keeping visible hardware to a minimum, leaving the glass as the main visual element in balustrades, façades, partitions, canopies, and shower enclosures.
Strofix supplies round glass adaptors from Ø12 mm up to Ø70 mm (including D30, D38, D40, D50, D60 and D70) plus square 38×38 and 40×40 versions, in AISI 201, AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel, with satin, polished or painted finishes and a broad range of spacer heights. The right adaptor depends on glass thickness, wall-to-glass offset, environment and the type of supporting surface.
Glass adaptors are essential components used to securely connect glass panels to supporting structures while maintaining a clean, modern appearance. They are widely applied in glass railings, partitions, façades, canopies, and other architectural systems where both stability and design matter. By creating a reliable fixing point between glass and metal or wall-mounted surfaces, glass adaptors help distribute load evenly and ensure structural safety without compromising transparency.
Strofix designs and supplies stainless-steel fastening systems for architectural glass, including glass adaptors, railing components, handrails, and structural fixings. We also serve architects, installers, and building contractors on residential and commercial projects.
