About D50 Glass Adaptors

A D50 glass adaptor is a Ø50 mm stainless-steel point fixing with a spherical (domed) cover that mounts a glass panel to a wall, floor or post through a single drilled hole.

The 50 mm diameter provides a wider load contact area than D30 or D40 adaptors, making it suited to larger or heavier glass panels on commercial balustrades, façades, partitions and structural glazing.

Strofix supplies D50 glass adaptors in eight variants — standard spherical, spherical with inner thread, and Ø42.4 mm tube-mount — in AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, with satin or polished finishes, and spacer thicknesses from 15 to 52 mm.

Screw options include M8, M10 and M12 depending on the variant, with selectable screw lengths to match the total assembly depth.

The correct D50 adaptor depends on spacer thickness, fixing type, steel grade, finish and mounting surface.

How to choose a D50 glass adaptor

1. Spacer thickness (15–52 mm)

Spacer thickness sets the wall-to-glass offset.

Some variants have a fixed short spacer (approximately 10–15 mm) for compact installations.

Others offer selectable spacer heights of 22, 32, 42 and 52 mm for deeper wall build-ups with insulation, cladding or render layers.

The inner-thread variant with extended spacers covers 15–52 mm.

Match the spacer to the total distance from the finished wall surface to the desired glass position.

2. Fixing type: standard stud or inner thread

Standard D50 adaptors use a threaded stud that passes through the glass and is secured with a nut and cover on the opposite side.

Inner-thread variants accept a bolt from the glass side, providing removability and simplified installation where back-access is limited.

Inner-thread models also offer selectable spacer heights within a single product, reducing the number of variants to stock.

3. Steel grade: AISI 304 or AISI 316

AISI 304 is the standard grade for interior and typical exterior installations.

AISI 316 is available on most D50 variants and should be specified for coastal, pool and high-humidity environments where higher chloride resistance is required.

4. Surface finish: satin or polished

Satin is the standard finish across the D50 range — it conceals fingerprints and micro-scratches.

Polished variants are available for the standard spherical and the inner-thread spherical models, providing a brighter, mirror-like appearance for contemporary interiors.

Finish is an aesthetic choice and does not affect structural performance.

5. Mounting surface: flat or Ø42.4 mm tube

Seven variants have a flat base for wall, floor or flat-sided post mounting.

One variant has a concave base profiled for Ø42.4 mm round pipe, suited to post-and-rail balustrade systems.
