The Strofix D50 spherical glass adaptor with extended spacer (Ø17 hole) is a stainless-steel point fixing used to mount 8–21.52 mm glass panels to flat surfaces in balustrades, façades, canopies, and architectural glazing, with deeper standoff options for thicker wall buildups and structural laminated glass. Available in AISI 304 or AISI 316 grade with satin finish, a Ø50 mm domed cover, an M10 screw, and four selectable spacer heights (22, 32, 42, or 52 mm).
The Ø50 mm spherical (domed) cover gives the fixing a distinctive rounded profile and allows small angular deviations between the glass and the mounting surface, which is useful in façade and canopy applications where perfect planarity cannot be guaranteed. Each adaptor secures the glass through a single Ø17 mm pre-drilled hole, with a 16 mm inner bushing diameter, and is clamped by an M10 stainless-steel screw, with the spacer height selected at order time. Compared to other D50 spherical variants in the family, this SKU pairs the extended spacer range with a slightly smaller Ø17 mm glass hole and supports thicker glass up to 21.52 mm. AISI 304 suits interior and standard exterior installations; AISI 316 contains added molybdenum for higher resistance to chlorides and salt air, making it the correct choice for coastal and high-humidity environments (note that the 52 mm spacer is supplied in AISI 304 only).
The satin finish reduces visible fingerprints and micro-scratches compared to polished stainless steel and suits architectural glazing where a clean, neutral look is required.
This D50 spherical variant is suitable for glass panels from 8 mm to 21.52 mm thick, covering standard toughened glass and thicker structural laminated glass buildups commonly used in architectural façades and heavy-duty balustrades.
The spacer sets the standoff distance between the substrate and the glass panel. Choose 22 or 32 mm for standard wall construction, and 42 or 52 mm where additional clearance is needed for insulation, finish layers, or a pronounced shadow gap. The spacer is not adjustable after installation — select the correct height at order time. Note that the 52 mm spacer is supplied in AISI 304 only.
Both offer 22–52 mm spacers and an M10 screw with the Ø50 mm domed cover. The other extended-spacer D50 SKU uses a Ø18 mm glass hole with 17 mm bushing on 8–17.52 mm glass. This SKU uses a slightly smaller Ø17 mm hole with 16 mm bushing and supports thicker glass up to 21.52 mm. Choose this SKU for thicker glass buildups; choose the other variant where the larger glass hole is required by other components in the assembly.
The Ø50 mm cover has a rounded, dome-shaped profile rather than a flat disc. The spherical geometry gives the fixing a distinctive visual signature and allows small angular tolerances between the mounting plane and the glass — useful in façade and canopy applications where perfect alignment is hard to guarantee.
A minimum Ø17 mm hole is required for the M10 screw. The adaptor uses a 16 mm inner bushing diameter. The hole must be pre-drilled by the glass supplier before tempering — toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after heat treatment.
AISI 316 contains molybdenum, which provides higher resistance to chlorides and salt air. Specify AISI 316 for coastal, pool, and high-humidity installations. AISI 304 is sufficient for interior use and standard outdoor conditions inland. On this SKU, AISI 316 is offered in the 22, 32, and 42 mm spacer heights; the 52 mm spacer is AISI 304 only.
A glass adaptor is a stainless-steel point fixing that attaches a glass panel to a supporting structure through a drilled hole in the glass. It transfers load from the panel to the substrate while keeping visible hardware to a minimum, leaving the glass as the main visual element in balustrades, façades, partitions, canopies, and shower enclosures.
Strofix supplies round glass adaptors from Ø12 mm up to Ø70 mm (including D30, D38, D40, D50, D60 and D70) plus square 38×38 and 40×40 versions, in AISI 201, AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel, with satin, polished or painted finishes and a broad range of spacer heights. The right adaptor depends on glass thickness, wall-to-glass offset, environment and the type of supporting surface.
Glass adaptors are essential components used to securely connect glass panels to supporting structures while maintaining a clean, modern appearance. They are widely applied in glass railings, partitions, façades, canopies, and other architectural systems where both stability and design matter. By creating a reliable fixing point between glass and metal or wall-mounted surfaces, glass adaptors help distribute load evenly and ensure structural safety without compromising transparency.
Strofix designs and supplies stainless-steel fastening systems for architectural glass, including glass adaptors, railing components, handrails, and structural fixings. We also serve architects, installers, and building contractors on residential and commercial projects.
