About Glass Support Plates

A glass support plate is a small stainless-steel shelf that sits inside a glass clamp and carries the dead weight of the glass panel from its bottom edge.

It transfers the vertical load from the panel to the post or mounting surface, preventing the glass from sliding down within the clamp over time.

Strofix supplies glass support plates in two configurations: a flat-base version for mounting on flat surfaces or flat-sided posts, and a curved-base version profiled for Ø42.4 mm round pipe.

Both are made from AISI 304 stainless steel with a satin finish.

The correct support plate depends on whether the glass clamp is mounted on a flat surface or a round post.

How to choose a glass support plate

1. Mounting surface: flat or round pipe

This is the only decisive criterion. If the glass clamp is mounted on a flat surface — a wall, a square post or a flat-sided railing post — choose the flat-base support plate.

If the clamp is mounted on a Ø42.4 mm round pipe, choose the curved-base variant, which is profiled to sit flush against the tube circumference.

2. Compatibility with glass clamps

Glass support plates are designed to work with Strofix glass clamps.

Confirm that the support plate width matches the internal channel of the clamp being used.

The plate slides into the clamp before the glass panel is inserted and tightened.

3. Quantity

Each glass panel typically requires one support plate per clamp point along its bottom edge.

Count the number of bottom-edge clamp positions to determine how many support plates to order.
