About D70 Glass Adaptors

A D70 glass adaptor is a Ø70 mm stainless-steel point fixing with a spherical (domed) cover — the largest standard adaptor diameter in the Strofix range.

The 70 mm cover spreads clamping force over a wide contact area, making it suited to heavy or large-format glass panels on commercial façades, structural balustrades and high-load glazing applications where smaller adaptors would concentrate stress excessively.

Strofix supplies D70 glass adaptors in two spherical variants: a compact version with an approximately 10 mm spacer and selectable M10 or M12 screw, and an extended version with a 32 mm spacer and M12 × 100 mm screw — both in AISI 304 stainless steel with a satin finish and flat-surface mounting.

The correct D70 variant depends on the required spacer height and the screw size that matches the total assembly depth.

How to choose a D70 glass adaptor

1. Spacer height (10 or 32 mm)

The compact variant has an approximately 10 mm spacer for near-flush or thin-wall installations.

The extended variant has a 32 mm spacer for walls with render, cladding or insulation layers that increase the mounting-surface-to-glass distance.

Measure the total offset required and select the variant that matches.

2. Screw size (M10 or M12)

The compact variant is available with either an M10 or M12 screw, allowing the installer to match bolt diameter to the structural requirements and the drilled hole in the glass.

The extended variant uses a fixed M12 × 100 mm screw to handle the longer assembly depth and the higher loads typical of large-panel installations.

3. When to choose D70 over a smaller adaptor

D70 is the largest adaptor in the Strofix range and is designed for situations where D50 or D60 would not provide sufficient contact area — typically heavy laminated panels above 12.76 mm, wide commercial façade panels, or structural glazing where point-fixing load calculations dictate a larger diameter.

For lighter residential panels and standard balustrades, D30–D50 adaptors are usually sufficient.
