The Strofix D50 spherical glass adaptor is a stainless-steel point fixing used to mount 8–17.52 mm glass panels to flat surfaces in balustrades, façades, canopies, and architectural glazing. Available in AISI 304 or AISI 316 grade with a fixed 10 mm spacer, satin finish, a Ø50 mm domed cover, and a selectable M8 × 45 mm or M10 × 45 mm screw.
The Ø50 mm spherical (domed) cover gives the fixing a distinctive rounded profile and allows small angular deviations between the glass and the mounting surface, which is useful in façade and canopy applications where perfect planarity between substrate, spacer, and panel cannot be guaranteed. Each adaptor secures the glass through a single Ø18 mm pre-drilled hole, with a 17 mm inner bushing diameter that accepts either the M8 or M10 screw, and the 10 mm un-threaded spacer sets a short standoff between the wall and the glass. AISI 304 suits interior and standard exterior installations; AISI 316 contains added molybdenum for higher resistance to chlorides and salt air, making it the correct choice for coastal and high-humidity environments.
The satin finish reduces visible fingerprints and micro-scratches compared to polished stainless steel and suits architectural glazing where a clean, neutral look is required.
The D50 spherical adaptor is suitable for glass panels from 8 mm to 17.52 mm thick, covering standard toughened glass and most common laminated glass buildups used in balustrades, façades, and canopies.
Both options use the same 45 mm length and Ø18 mm glass hole with 17 mm inner bushing. M8 is the lighter of the two and matches typical wall-anchor sets for standard point-fixed glazing. M10 provides a higher-capacity fixing for heavier panels or more highly loaded assemblies. Match the screw size to the structural calculation for your specific installation and to the wall-anchor set you plan to use.
The Ø50 mm cover has a rounded, dome-shaped profile rather than a flat disc. The spherical geometry gives the fixing a distinctive visual signature and allows small angular tolerances between the mounting plane and the glass — useful in façade and canopy applications where perfect alignment is hard to guarantee.
A minimum Ø18 mm hole is required regardless of whether M8 or M10 is selected — both options use the same 17 mm inner bushing. The hole must be pre-drilled by the glass supplier before tempering — toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after heat treatment.
AISI 316 contains molybdenum, which provides higher resistance to chlorides and salt air. Specify AISI 316 for coastal, pool, and high-humidity installations. AISI 304 is sufficient for interior use and standard outdoor conditions inland.
No. This SKU ships with a fixed 10 mm un-threaded spacer, which sets the standoff distance between the wall and the glass. The spacer cannot be adjusted after installation. For on-site adjustment of the standoff, the D50 spherical variant with inner thread should be used instead.
A glass adaptor is a stainless-steel point fixing that attaches a glass panel to a supporting structure through a drilled hole in the glass. It transfers load from the panel to the substrate while keeping visible hardware to a minimum, leaving the glass as the main visual element in balustrades, façades, partitions, canopies, and shower enclosures.
Strofix supplies round glass adaptors from Ø12 mm up to Ø70 mm (including D30, D38, D40, D50, D60 and D70) plus square 38×38 and 40×40 versions, in AISI 201, AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel, with satin, polished or painted finishes and a broad range of spacer heights. The right adaptor depends on glass thickness, wall-to-glass offset, environment and the type of supporting surface.
Glass adaptors are essential components used to securely connect glass panels to supporting structures while maintaining a clean, modern appearance. They are widely applied in glass railings, partitions, façades, canopies, and other architectural systems where both stability and design matter. By creating a reliable fixing point between glass and metal or wall-mounted surfaces, glass adaptors help distribute load evenly and ensure structural safety without compromising transparency.
Strofix designs and supplies stainless-steel fastening systems for architectural glass, including glass adaptors, railing components, handrails, and structural fixings. We also serve architects, installers, and building contractors on residential and commercial projects.
