About Railing Posts

A railing post is a vertical stainless-steel upright that forms the structural backbone of a balustrade, supporting either glass panels or horizontal rod infills between posts and carrying a handrail along the top.

The post transfers lateral and vertical loads from the infill and handrail down to the floor, deck or stair structure.

Strofix supplies railing post systems in two subcategories — for rod infill and for glass infill — each available in flat (40×40 mm) and round (Ø42.4 mm) post profiles, with variants for flat-surface and stair installations, in AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel with a satin finish.

The glass railing range includes systems with integrated glass adaptors in multiple configurations.

With 26 products across the two subcategories, the correct post system depends on infill type (rod or glass), post profile (flat or round), installation surface (flat or stair) and the required steel grade.

How to choose a railing post system

1. Infill type: rod or glass

This is the first decision and determines the subcategory.

Rod railing posts have pre-drilled holes or fittings for horizontal rod crossbars between posts.

Glass railing posts are designed to hold glass panels — either via glass clamps or integrated glass adaptors — and include variants with different numbers of fixing points.

Choose based on the barrier design specified for the project.

2. Post profile: flat (40×40 mm) or round (Ø42.4 mm)

Each infill type is available in a square 40×40 mm flat-sided profile and a round Ø42.4 mm tube profile.

The flat profile pairs with other square-section railing components and produces a geometric, contemporary appearance.

The round profile matches standard Ø42.4 mm tube handrails, elbows and connectors.

The choice is aesthetic and does not affect structural capacity.

3. Installation surface: flat or stairs

Flat-surface posts are designed for level installations on balconies, terraces, walkways and mezzanines.

Stair posts are angled at the base to follow the pitch of a staircase.

Confirm the installation location before selecting — a flat-surface post cannot be adjusted for stair pitch after purchase.

4. Steel grade: AISI 304 or AISI 316

All 26 post systems are available in AISI 304, and most are also available in AISI 316.

AISI 304 is the standard grade for interior and typical exterior installations.

AISI 316 should be specified for coastal, pool and high-humidity environments where higher chloride resistance is required.

5. Glass railing configuration (glass subcategory only)

Within the glass railing subcategory, multiple system variants exist with different glass adaptor arrangements and fixing-point counts.

Systems with more fixing points provide higher hold strength for larger or heavier glass panels.

Compare the product images and specifications to match the system to the glass panel size and load requirements of the project.
