The Strofix 40×40 glass adaptor with adjustable cover is a stainless-steel point fixing used to mount 8–21.52 mm glass panels to flat surfaces in balustrades, façades, and architectural glazing, with a square cover that can articulate to compensate for small angle deviations. Supplied in AISI 304 with a satin finish, four selectable spacer heights (12, 22, 32, or 42 mm), and an M10 × 70 mm screw.
The 40×40 mm square cover gives the fixing a distinctive angular visual signature and differentiates it from round-cover adaptors in the same load class.
The "adjustable cover" refers to the cover's ability to tilt slightly relative to the spacer, which accommodates small out-of-plane tolerances between the substrate and the glass panel — useful on site where perfect planarity is difficult to guarantee. Each adaptor secures the glass through a single Ø16 mm pre-drilled hole with a 15 mm inner bushing diameter, and is clamped by an M10 × 70 mm stainless-steel screw, with the spacer height selected at order time. AISI 304 is the standard chromium-nickel stainless steel and provides reliable corrosion resistance for indoor installations and standard protected outdoor environments away from coastal conditions.
The satin finish reduces visible fingerprints and micro-scratches compared to polished stainless steel and suits architectural glazing where a clean, neutral look is required.
Use cases:
- Architectural glass façades and curtain wall point-fixed panels
- Balustrades with thick toughened or laminated glass up to 21.52 mm
- Glass canopies, entrance awnings, and porte-cochères
- Full-height glass partitions and atrium walls in commercial interiors
- Retail storefront and shopfront glazing
- Feature glazing where a square-profile visible fixing is part of the design language
FAQ:
What glass thickness does this adaptor support?
This 40×40 adaptor is suitable for glass panels from 8 mm to 21.52 mm thick, covering standard toughened glass and thicker structural laminated glass buildups used in façades, canopies, and heavy-duty balustrades.
Which spacer height should I choose?
The spacer sets the distance between the substrate and the glass panel. Choose 12 mm for minimal offset, 22 or 32 mm for standard wall construction, and 42 mm where additional clearance is needed for insulation or finish layers. The spacer itself is not continuously adjustable after installation — select the correct height at order time.
What does "adjustable cover" mean?
The cover can tilt slightly relative to the spacer, allowing the fixing to compensate for small angular deviations between the mounting plane and the glass. This is an installation tolerance feature — it is not an adjustment the user changes after the fact, and the spacer height itself is fixed per SKU.
What size hole must be drilled in the glass?
A minimum Ø16 mm hole is required. The adaptor uses a 15 mm inner bushing diameter for the M10 screw. The hole must be pre-drilled by the glass supplier before tempering — toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after heat treatment.
What stainless steel grade is used?
This SKU is supplied in AISI 304, the standard chromium-nickel stainless steel. AISI 304 provides reliable corrosion resistance for indoor installations and standard protected outdoor environments. For coastal, pool, or chloride-rich locations, a higher-grade stainless steel such as AISI 316 should be specified.
Can I install it myself?
Yes, with basic tools: a drill with the correct bit for your wall material, a torque wrench, an M10-rated wall anchor matched to the substrate, and pre-drilled glass. Thick laminated glass panels are heavier than standard toughened glass and should be handled with two people. Follow the glass supplier's recommended torque to avoid cracking.
About glass adaptors
A glass adaptor is a stainless-steel point fixing that attaches a glass panel to a supporting structure through a drilled hole in the glass. It transfers load from the panel to the substrate while keeping visible hardware to a minimum, leaving the glass as the main visual element in balustrades, façades, partitions, canopies, and shower enclosures.
Strofix supplies round glass adaptors from Ø12 mm up to Ø70 mm (including D30, D38, D40, D50, D60 and D70) plus square 38×38 and 40×40 versions, in AISI 201, AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel, with satin, polished or painted finishes and a broad range of spacer heights. The right adaptor depends on glass thickness, wall-to-glass offset, environment and the type of supporting surface.
Glass adaptors are essential components used to securely connect glass panels to supporting structures while maintaining a clean, modern appearance. They are widely applied in glass railings, partitions, façades, canopies, and other architectural systems where both stability and design matter. By creating a reliable fixing point between glass and metal or wall-mounted surfaces, glass adaptors help distribute load evenly and ensure structural safety without compromising transparency.
