Stainless steel rope

The Strofix stainless-steel rope is an AISI 316 wire rope available in Ø4, Ø5, or Ø6 mm diameter, designed for use in wire rope railing and balustrade systems. Supplied in coils of 25 or 50 metres depending on the diameter. All diameters are manufactured from AISI 316 stainless steel for high corrosion resistance in exterior and coastal applications.

The wire rope serves as a horizontal infill element in railing systems, threaded through rope holders mounted on railing posts. The Ø4 mm rope is available in 50 metre coils only. The Ø5 and Ø6 mm ropes are available in both 25 and 50 metre coils. Select the diameter and length in the dropdowns at order time. Thicker ropes provide greater stiffness and higher load capacity between post spans, while thinner ropes create a more visually lightweight infill. AISI 316 contains molybdenum, providing high resistance to chlorides and salt air — suitable for both inland and coastal installations.

What rope diameters are available?

Three diameters are available: Ø4, Ø5, and Ø6 mm. Select the diameter that suits the span length, required stiffness, and desired visual weight of the infill. Thicker rope is stiffer and less prone to sagging over longer spans.

What coil lengths are available for each diameter?

The Ø4 mm rope is available in 50 metre coils only. The Ø5 mm and Ø6 mm ropes are available in both 25 and 50 metre coils. Select the length at order time.

What steel grade is used?

All rope diameters are manufactured from AISI 316 stainless steel. AISI 316 contains molybdenum for high chloride resistance, making this rope suitable for coastal, pool, and high-humidity environments as well as standard inland installations.

What Strofix components work with this rope?

The Wire Rope System range includes rope holders (for mounting the rope to Ø42.4 mm post tubes and flat surfaces), rope crossbar holders, rope bar holders, and railing terminals. These components are designed to tension, guide, and terminate the wire rope within the railing system.

How is the rope tensioned?

The wire rope is threaded through rope holders mounted on the railing posts and secured at each end using railing terminals. The terminals provide the tensioning mechanism to keep the rope taut between posts.

Can the rope be cut to length on site?

Wire rope can be cut to length with an appropriate wire rope cutter. The 25 or 50 metre coil provides stock material from which individual rope lengths are cut to suit the railing spans on the project.

A wire rope system is a stainless-steel cable infill for balustrades, where horizontal tensioned ropes run between railing posts to form a lightweight, open barrier. The thin cables maintain visibility and airflow while providing fall protection on balconies, terraces, decks and staircases.

Strofix supplies all components for wire rope balustrades: a Ø4 mm stainless-steel rope in AISI 316 (available in 25 m and 50 m lengths), rope holders that clamp the cable to the post, rope crossbar holders, rope bar holders, and railing terminals that anchor the cable end at the first and last post.
