The Strofix D50 spherical adjustable glass adaptor is a stainless-steel point fixing used to mount 8–21.52 mm glass panels to flat surfaces in balustrades, façades, canopies, and architectural glazing, with a continuously adjustable spacer and an internally threaded spacer for on-site fine-tuning. Available in AISI 304 or AISI 316 grade with a satin finish, a Ø50 mm domed cover, an M10 screw, and three selectable spacer ranges (32–38 mm, 42–48 mm, or 52–58 mm).

The Ø50 mm spherical (domed) cover gives the fixing a distinctive rounded profile and allows small angular deviations between the glass and the mounting surface, which is useful in façade and canopy applications where perfect planarity cannot be guaranteed. Each spacer range provides a 6 mm adjustment window — for example, anywhere from 32 to 38 mm with the first variant — by extending or retracting the telescoping mechanism during installation. The M10 inner thread in the spacer provides additional fine-tuning within that window. Each adaptor secures the glass through a single Ø21 mm pre-drilled hole, with a 20 mm inner bushing diameter, and is clamped by an M10 stainless-steel screw. AISI 304 suits interior and standard exterior installations; AISI 316 contains added molybdenum for higher resistance to chlorides and salt air, making it the correct choice for coastal and high-humidity environments.

The satin finish reduces visible fingerprints and micro-scratches compared to polished stainless steel and suits architectural glazing where a clean, neutral look is required.

Use cases:

  • Balustrades on insulated or clad walls where the exact wall-to-glass distance falls within the 32–58 mm band
  • Architectural glass façades and curtain wall point-fixed panels requiring on-site alignment
  • Glass canopies, entrance awnings, and porte-cochères with deep substrate buildups
  • Pool fencing and seafront balustrades (AISI 316 recommended)
  • Heavy-duty glazing with thick laminated glass up to 21.52 mm where adjustability is needed
  • Retrofit installations where wall dimensions and finish depths vary along the run

FAQ:

What glass thickness does this adaptor support?

The D50 spherical adjustable adaptor is suitable for glass panels from 8 mm to 21.52 mm thick, covering standard toughened glass and thicker structural laminated glass buildups commonly used in architectural façades and heavy-duty balustrades.

Which spacer range should I choose?

Each variant covers a 6 mm adjustment window: 32–38 mm, 42–48 mm, or 52–58 mm. The telescoping spacer can be set to any distance within the chosen range during installation, and the M10 inner thread provides additional fine-tuning. Measure the nominal wall-to-glass dimension and select the range that covers it.

How does this differ from the other D50 spherical adjustable with inner thread?

The other adjustable D50 SKU covers a single continuous 35–55 mm range with a Ø18 mm glass hole, 17 mm bushing, and 8–17.52 mm glass. This SKU offers three separate 6 mm ranges (32–38, 42–48, 52–58 mm), uses a larger Ø21 mm glass hole with 20 mm bushing, and supports thicker glass up to 21.52 mm. Choose this SKU for thicker glass or when the required standoff falls at the edges of the range (below 35 or above 55 mm).

What does "spherical" mean for this adaptor?

The Ø50 mm cover has a rounded, dome-shaped profile rather than a flat disc. The spherical geometry gives the fixing a distinctive visual signature and allows small angular tolerances between the mounting plane and the glass — useful in façade and canopy applications where perfect alignment is hard to guarantee.

What size hole must be drilled in the glass?

A minimum Ø21 mm hole is required for the M10 screw. The adaptor uses a 20 mm inner bushing diameter. The hole must be pre-drilled by the glass supplier before tempering — toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after heat treatment.

What is the difference between AISI 304 and AISI 316?

AISI 316 contains molybdenum, which provides higher resistance to chlorides and salt air. Specify AISI 316 for coastal, pool, and high-humidity installations. AISI 304 is sufficient for interior use and standard outdoor conditions inland. Both grades are available across all three spacer ranges on this SKU.

About adjustable glass adaptors

An adjustable glass adaptor is a stainless-steel point fixing with a variable spacer height that allows the wall-to-glass offset to be fine-tuned during installation. Unlike fixed-spacer adaptors, the adjustable design compensates for uneven substrates, insulation build-ups and alignment tolerances, reducing the need for shimming or rework on site.

Strofix supplies adjustable glass adaptors in three diameters — D35, D40 and D50 — in AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel with a satin finish. Spacer adjustment ranges span from 20–25 mm up to 52–58 mm, and selected variants feature a spherical head with an inner thread for additional angular flexibility.

Choosing between variants depends on the required offset range, glass-panel size and whether the environment calls for AISI 316 corrosion resistance.
