The Strofix base glass clamp (side square) is an AISI 304 stainless-steel side-mounted spigot with a 40 × 40 mm square profile, designed to hold 12–17.52 mm glass panels vertically in frameless glass railing and balustrade systems. Overall height is 325 mm. Supplied in satin finish.
The side-mount base glass clamp is attached to a wall, fascia, or structural edge rather than to the floor. The 325 mm height provides a substantial clamping length alongside the glass panel for structural stability. The 12–17.52 mm glass thickness range covers standard toughened glass and common laminated safety glass buildups used in glass balustrade applications. The 40 × 40 mm square body provides a clean, angular profile that sits flat against the mounting surface. AISI 304 stainless steel is suitable for standard interior and exterior installations.
This is the side-mount, square-profile variant. Side-mount clamps are used where floor mounting is not possible or where the glass panel is secured to the edge of a balcony slab, wall, or structural beam. The Strofix Spigot System range also includes a side-mount round variant and bottom-mount variants for floor-anchored installations.
Use cases:
- Wall-mounted frameless glass balustrades on balconies and terraces
- Fascia-mounted glass railings on the edge of concrete slabs or steel beams
- Staircase glass balustrades mounted to the stringer or wall side
- Retrofit glass railings where floor anchoring is not feasible
- Mezzanine and gallery edge protection with side-fixed glass panels
- Commercial building exterior glass barriers mounted to structural edges
FAQ:
What glass thickness does this clamp accept?
The base glass clamp accepts glass panels from 12 to 17.52 mm thick. This range covers standard toughened glass and common laminated safety glass buildups used in glass balustrade systems.
What does "side" mounting mean?
Side mounting means the clamp is attached to a wall, fascia, slab edge, or structural beam — not to the floor surface. This is the key difference from "bottom" variants, which are floor-anchored. Side mounting is used when floor anchoring is not possible or when the glass is secured to the edge of a structural element.
Why is the side-mount clamp taller than the bottom-mount?
The side-mount clamp has a 325 mm height, compared to 182 mm for the bottom-mount variants. The greater height provides a longer clamping zone alongside the glass panel, which is necessary for structural stability when the clamp is attached from the side rather than from below.
What is the body profile size?
The clamp has a 40 × 40 mm square body profile. A side-mount round variant (Ø42.4 mm) is also available in the Strofix Spigot System range.
How does this differ from the bottom-mount square variant?
The side-mount square clamp has a 40 × 40 mm profile (vs 50 × 50 mm for bottom), is 325 mm tall (vs 182 mm), and mounts to a wall or fascia (vs floor). The glass thickness range (12–17.52 mm) is the same. Choose side mount when floor anchoring is not feasible, or when the glass panel attaches to a structural edge.
What steel grade and finish is used?
The clamp is manufactured from AISI 304 stainless steel with a satin finish. AISI 304 is suitable for standard interior and exterior installations.
About Spigot Systems
A spigot system is a base-mounted glass clamp that grips a glass panel along its bottom or side edge, anchoring the panel directly to a floor, deck or fascia without the need for vertical posts.
The result is a frameless glass balustrade where the glass itself forms the barrier and no intermediate posts interrupt the sightline.
Each spigot clamp consists of a solid base that bolts to the substrate and a clamping channel that holds the glass securely with internal pressure.
Strofix supplies base glass clamps in four configurations: bottom-mount round (Ø48 mm), bottom-mount square (50×50 mm), side-mount square (40×40 mm) and side-mount round (Ø42.4 mm) — all in AISI 304 stainless steel, with satin or matte black finishes.
The correct spigot depends on mounting orientation (bottom or side), base profile (round or square) and the desired finish.
